Derek Merrin is a Republican politician from Lucas County, Ohio, and a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives (2016-2025), where he chaired the House Ways and Means Committee and led the House Republican caucus. He was elected to Waterville City Council at 19 and served as Mayor of Waterville from 2008 to 2011. Merrin was the GOP nominee against Rep. Marcy Kaptur in 2024, losing narrowly, and won the May 2026 Republican primary to face Kaptur again in Ohio's 9th District, rated a toss-up.
