Harry Reid

Late U.S. Senate Majority Leader (D-NV); architect of Nevada's Democratic 'Reid machine'

Harry Reid (1939-2021) was the U.S. Senate Democratic leader from Nevada who built a powerful state political operation, the 'Reid machine,' fusing casino-worker unions and Latino and immigrant voters. When he retired in 2016 he hand-picked his former attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto to succeed him, and she relied heavily on his infrastructure and donor network to hold the seat.
