A Republican, he was sworn in on June 10, 2026 after winning the June 2, 2026 special election to succeed the late Rep. Doug LaMalfa. Gallagher previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2026, representing the northern Sacramento Valley, and was the Assembly Republican leader from 2022 to 2025.
