Ken Paxton

Ken Paxton is a Republican who has served as Texas Attorney General since January 2015; he previously served in the Texas House and Texas Senate. He declined to seek a fourth term as attorney general in order to run for the U.S. Senate, announcing his campaign in April 2025 and challenging incumbent John Cornyn in the Republican primary. After the March 3, 2026 primary advanced to a runoff, Paxton defeated Cornyn in the May 2026 runoff and is the Republican nominee facing Democrat James Talarico in the November 3, 2026 general election.
