Shenna Bellows is the Maine Secretary of State, first elected to the office by the Legislature in 2021, and previously served as executive director of the ACLU of Maine (2005-2013) and as a Maine state senator (2016-2020). In 2014 she won the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins but lost the general election by a wide margin. After finishing fourth in Maine's 2026 Democratic gubernatorial primary, she entered the 2026 U.S. Senate race on July 9, 2026, seeking the Democratic nomination against Collins following Graham Platner's suspension of his campaign.
