Webb County Judge; 2026 Republican nominee for Texas's 28th District
Tano Tijerina is the Webb County Judge (the county's chief executive), first elected in 2014 as a Democrat and serving a third term ending December 31, 2026. He switched his party affiliation to Republican in December 2024, citing the Democratic Party moving too far left. On December 2, 2025, he launched a Republican campaign for Texas's 28th Congressional District to unseat longtime Democratic incumbent Henry Cuellar, and won the March 3, 2026 GOP primary with roughly 74% of the vote, defeating Eileen Day.
