John F. King is Georgia's Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp in 2019 as the first Hispanic statewide official in Georgia's history and elected to the post in 2022. Born in Mexico City, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard, rising to major general, and was previously chief of police in Doraville, Georgia. He announced a 2026 U.S. Senate campaign in May 2025 but withdrew in July 2025 after Gov. Kemp backed Derek Dooley, opting instead to seek reelection as insurance commissioner. [John F.
