Zach Wahls

Zach Wahls is an Iowa State Senator first elected in 2018, who served as Senate Minority Leader from 2020 to 2023, and gained national attention in 2011 for viral testimony defending same-sex marriage before the Iowa Legislature. He co-founded Scouts for Equality and authored the book "My Two Moms." Wahls announced his U.S. Senate candidacy in June 2025 and campaigned as a progressive, union-backed candidate, but lost the June 2026 Democratic primary to state representative Josh Turek.
